Your Positive Morning Routine to Start the Day Off Right!

Not a morning person? That’s understandable. Starting off the day is tough for many people and, without the right routine, it can be easy to get your day started on the wrong foot. With the right morning routine, though, you’ll find you wake up faster and start your day feeling positive and energized.

Not sure what your positive morning routine should look like? Check out the tips below!

Get Some Sunshine!

Sunshine is key to waking you up and ensuring you have a positive morning. As Andrew Huberman, Ph.D. puts it:

“Viewing sunlight within the first hours of waking (as soon as you can, even if through cloud cover) increases early-day cortisol release (the ideal time for elevated cortisol) and prepares the body for sleep later that night. A morning spike in cortisol will also positively influence your immune system, metabolism, and ability to focus during the day.

Further, morning sunlight helps regulate your ‘circadian clock’—the body’s mechanism for anticipating when to wake up and go to sleep—and it manages other biological processes like hunger and body temperature.”

Exercise

Exercise gets the blood pumping, fills you with endorphins, and can be a great excuse for getting out of the house and getting some sunshine. Going for a jog or a bike ride can knock two of these tips out at the same time!

Exercise also helps to wake you up. The feel-good endorphins can be great for getting your brain going in the morning and helping you to get that jump-start you need, as well.

Meditate

Along with speeding up, you’ll want to take some time to slow down. This starts with meditation. Meditation helps to center you, bring you into the moment, and start your day on a peaceful note. Who doesn’t want to start their day with lower levels of stress?

Read Something Positive

Many people spend their morning consuming unhelpful media and “doom scrolling” social media to see all of the negative things that have happened overnight. This starts the day on a sour note and isn’t very helpful.

Instead, consider choosing a helpful book that motivates you and gets you started on the right note. One great recommendation is “Psycho-Cybernetics” by Maxwell Maltz M.D. It’s an older, motivational book that has stood the test of time.
