The Dangers of Mixing Drugs and Alcohol (and Why You Shouldn’t)

There are a lot of dangers that come with mixing drugs and alcohol.

Some people end up mixing the two because they aren’t aware of the risks and believe it will give them a better high. Others feel the only way to get to the level of intoxication that they are wanting is to mix drugs and alcohol.

Whatever the case may be, it’s extremely important to understand why you shouldn’t mix drugs and alcohol, and what you can do if you find yourself unable to stop this form of substance use.

The Dangers of Mixing Drugs and Alcohol

There are many potential risks that come with mixing alcohol and drugs. There are also different ways harm can be caused. As outlined in an article published by The University of Health Services, University of Michigan:

Potential harm can happen in [these] ways:

·       When people do not know that there are significant drug interactions and are caught by surprise when they inadvertently drink while using prescription medication

·       When people knowingly combine alcohol with other drugs because they mistakenly believe it will be a “better” or “enriched” intoxication

It’s important to consider the severe consequences that may come with mixing substances. If the person mixing the substances hasn’t done so before, doesn’t understand the effects, doesn’t know the right dosage, or doesn’t have information on many other factors, they could end up easily passing out, overdosing, and even dying.
