Can I Be Addicted to Marijuana?

Casey Pletcher • Aug 27, 2022

Marijuana, like alcohol, is a drug that many people use recreationally. This is especially so since marijuana has been legalized in many states. As it is legal and often used recreationally, people using the substance may not consider the potential for addiction to marijuana. Just like other drugs, though, casual use can lead to an addiction.

Is Marijuana Addictive?

The short answer to this question is, “Yes.” Marijuana can be addictive.

There is a myth that has been perpetuated through the years that you cannot be addicted to marijuana. Because of this myth, many people suffering from addiction don’t take their addiction seriously, so they don’t seek help. Actually, patients will sometimes find others question their addiction, as they have also heard the myth that marijuana is not addictive.

Just like with any other drug, it’s important to seek help for marijuana addiction. Stopping the use of marijuana without professional support can be difficult. Front Door Health is available to help you stop the use of marijuana and maintain ongoing sobriety.

Signs of Marijuana Addiction

There are a few signs of marijuana addiction that you can look for. These include:

  • The inability to stop on your own
  • An increased tolerance of marijuana
  • Lower levels of motivation
  • Poor decision-making
  • Relationship problems
  • Withdrawal symptoms when stopping use

Those that suffer from marijuana addiction will often write these symptoms of addiction off as being normal for marijuana users. They are not. If you find that you are experiencing one or more of these symptoms, reach out to Front Door Health for help.

Do I Need Treatment for Marijuana Addiction?

Yes. While the physical withdrawal symptoms aren’t as likely to lead to a hospital visit, they are still very uncomfortable. Cravings are also a major issue. Common withdrawal symptoms that a patient may experience include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Irritability
  • Sweating
  • Chills
  • Tremors
  • Restlessness

If you find you suffer from these withdrawal symptoms, you may have an addiction to marijuana. Reach out to Front Door Health if you are experiencing these symptoms when you attempt to stop the use of marijuana.

Can I Get In-Home Treatment?

Yes! Front Door Health understands some patients would prefer to receive treatment in-home or have limitations that prevent them from attending in-person treatment. That’s why we’ve established a form of in-home care that provides the same benefits as an in-patient facility, without the patient needing to leave the comfort of their home.

We understand the importance of compassion and hope when it comes to marijuana addiction treatment. Our staff makes sure you feel safe, seen, and heard. There is hope, and you can live a life of happiness without the reliance on marijuana. We are here to help you on your journey.
