What if I Can’t Go to Treatment?

What if I Can’t Go to Treatment?

In an ideal world, a person could simply drop what they are doing and get the help they need for a behavioral health, substance use, or mental health condition. In the real world, it can be extremely difficult for someone to put their life on hold to pursue treatment.

With that said, without treatment, the condition can worsen with time and lead to more severe consequences.

The “Treatment as Usual” Approach and the Challenges it Creates

When people think of treatment, they generally picture the “treatment as usual approach” of either checking into a facility or visiting multiple times throughout the week for outpatient care.

Best case scenario, the workplace of a patient allows them to take time off to receive treatment and they have someone that can take care of their children and/or pets (if they have them). Worst case scenario, though, a person in need of care can’t take the time off work or simply pause their other obligations. If this is the case, outpatient care may be a potential option, but even then, outpatient care can get in the way of childcare, overtime work, and other non-negotiable obligations.

So, what option does this leave for those that need a higher level of care, but can’t check into a facility for inpatient or outpatient care?

In-Home Treatment as an Alternative

An option that many people aren’t even aware of is in-home treatment. With in-home treatment, a patient is able to receive a higher level of care from the comfort of their own home. This allows a patient to receive the care they need while still being able to meet their obligations.
