FDH Highlights: Liz Brach

In this series, you’ll have the chance to meet and get to know the inspirational team members that make up the unique at-home behavioral health treatment provider Front Door Health.

Liz Brach LSW, CADC and Therapy Lead of Front Door Health is passionate about building strong rapport with her clients and collaborating with them to navigate the treatment process together.

Below, Liz shares more about her background, what she feels are the most important aspects of her job at Front Door Health, her views on the current healthcare system, and much more…

What led you to becoming the Therapy Lead of Front Door Health?

My background is in marketing and public relations. In 2019, I decided to go back to school to study social work. I decided to focus on substance use disorder because of how this disease has personally impacted my life. I worked in residential treatment during my internships and following graduation. Ready for a new career challenge, I found out about Front Door Health and started my journey working only 15 hours per week. This position has grown since, and I find myself busy in my role.

Where did you go to school and what degrees do you hold?

I went to Purdue University for my BA in Communications and Marketing and Aurora University for my MSW.

What is the most important part of your job?

Meeting clients where they are in their recovery journey. It is imperative to build strong therapeutic relationships with each client and personalize treatment for everyone. While in residential, I became frustrated with cookie-cutter care. I enjoy the individualized approach at FDH. That combined with a long-term relationship (care starts at 3 months and goes up to 1 year or more) means that clients receive the best care possible.

What are the biggest struggles in the mental health field?

A current mental health gap exists in this nation. Most people who need mental health care lack access to high-quality services. Though we have made progress, there is still stigma that exists with mental health and substance use disorders. Services are fragmented at best. There is a disconnect between healthcare providers leading to silos in care.

If you could change one thing about the current healthcare system, what would it be?

Each person must have free access to healthcare. Universal healthcare coverage would increase longevity in society, lower healthcare costs, improve healthcare equality, and eliminate financial hardships. This healthcare should cover the full spectrum of services from preventative care to treatment, rehabilitative, and palliative care.

What are your hobbies?

I have a pet bunny named Theodore and a betta fish named Fred. I have a collection of 20 houseplants and it’s growing daily. I love being an aunt and connecting with my family and dear friends. I spend time in nature, I love listening to music, and I enjoy decorating.

What else would you like people to know about Front Door Health, your team, and/or you?

Each day I am grateful to be a part of FDH. I know I am making a difference in people’s lives. I am challenged professionally and personally on the job. The FDH team is incredible!

Would you rather fight a bear or a shark? Please explain why.

A bear! I do not like deep, dark water. If I could fight a black bear that would be best because they are apparently more peaceful and tolerant than others.
