4 Ways a Cat Can Help with Your Mental Health

There’s nothing like the vibrating purr of a cat.

If you are a cat owner, you know how amazing it is to spend time with your furry friend. What you may not know is that your kitty may actually be providing you with mental health support!

Curious how? Check out the 4 ways a cat can help with your mental health below…

1. Boosting Mood

Did you know that by spending time with your cat (giving them all of the pets!) you are increasing your serotonin levels while simultaneously lowering your cortisol? Make sure you give your cat a good rub for a boost in your overall mood!

2. Companionship

If you live alone or don’t spend a lot of time with others, it can get pretty lonely. Cats help to provide companionship, which can be particularly important in early sobriety and in times of need.

3. Purpose

A lot of people don’t think about how much having a pet actually gives them a sense of purpose. Taking care of another creature, though, can be extremely beneficial in providing you with meaning. This sense of purpose helps with boosting your self-esteem.

4. Providing Support During Tough Times

During tough times, it’s nice to have someone to cuddle. The act of simply hugging and showing your cat love can help to cope with feelings of anxiety, depression, and loneliness.
